Fully Registered Division I Dentists

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FOR SINGAPORE DENTAL COUNCIL ELECTION 2021

 

The term of office for the eleven (11) incumbent members of the Singapore Dental Council (SDC) will expire on 30 April 2021. As such, an election of Council members is planned from Tuesday, 23 March 2021 to Monday, 29 March 2021 to fill the vacancies arising from the expiry of term of office for the following five (5) elected members:

(a) Dr Ang Ee Peng Raymond

(b) Dr Aw Kian-Li Andrew

(c) Dr Chang Kok Meng

(d) Dr Kuan Chee Keong

(e) Dr Seah Tian Ee

2.         The SDC would like to invite all Fully Registered Division I Dentists to nominate not more than five (5) Fully Registered Division I Dentists who are resident in Singapore to stand for election. You must obtain the consent of the nominee when submitting the nomination.1 The Minister for Health will appoint another five Division I Dentists, one Division II Dentist and a minimum of one Oral Health Therapist to form the new Council. The new Council will assume office on 1 May 2021.

 3.         Your attention is drawn to Section 72 of the Dental Registration Act (Chapter 76) (the “Act”), stating who may NOT qualify as a member of the Council. Please be familiar with the relevant provisions of the Act and the Dental Registration Regulations.

Nomination is by Email Submission only

4.         The submission period for nominations is from Tuesday, 9 February (12 noon) to Tuesday, 2 March 2021 (12 noon). If you would like to nominate a candidate to stand for election, please email the following documents to SDC@spb.gov.sg with the subject “Nomination for SDC Election 2021”:

(a) Completed Nomination Form; and
(b) Nominee’s Curriculum Vitae (CV).

5.         The Nomination Form and template for Curriculum Vitae (CV) can be downloaded from the SDC website here.

6.         Please note that late submission or submission by hand, courier, mail or fax to the SDC WILL NOT be accepted.

Preparing for the upcoming SDC Election in March 2021

7.         In preparation to take part in the upcoming election in March 2021, please ensure the following:
(a) Set up your SingPass and 2FA or ensure that you have your SingPass ID and password ready for the online voting. You may refer to the instructional guides from SingPass here for more information on setting up your SingPass and 2FA; and
(b) Update your particulars (e.g. preferred email address, handphone number, residential status, employment details) through the Professional Registration System (PRS) here.

8.         Please be reminded that Voting is Compulsory. You may wish to refer to the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) here on the Election process. Alternatively, you may email us at SDC@spb.gov.sg if you require further clarification.

1 Nominations
5.— (1) Every relevant dentist who desires to nominate a candidate for election as a member of the Council shall —
(a) enter his own name as proposer and sign on the nomination paper referred to in regulation 4(2);
(b) enter on the nomination paper the name of the candidate and have the consent of the candidate endorsed thereon;
(c) enter on the nomination paper the name of a seconder for the candidate and have the signature of the seconder endorsed thereon; and
(d) submit the nomination paper in the manner fixed by the returning officer under regulation 4(1)(a) together with such information concerning the candidate as the returning officer may require.
(2) No person other than a relevant dentist shall propose or second the nomination of any candidate.
(3) The number of candidates nominated in an election by a proposer shall not exceed the number of vacancies for elected members of the Council to be filled in that election.

 2 Disqualifications for membership of Council
7. No person shall be a member of the Council if —
(a) he is not a citizen or a permanent resident of Singapore;
(b) he is not a registered dentist or registered oral health therapist;
(c) he is an undischarged bankrupt;
(d) he has been convicted in Singapore or elsewhere of any offence involving fraud or dishonesty, or implying a defect in character which makes him unfit for his profession;
(e) he has been found guilty in Singapore or elsewhere of any improper act or conduct which brings disrepute to his profession;
(f) he has been found guilty in Singapore or elsewhere of professional misconduct; or(g) his fitness to practise dentistry is judged by the Health Committee to be impaired by reason of his physical or mental condition.
