Renewal of Practising Certificate(s)

SNB issues practising certificates for nurses/midwives on its Register and Roll. 

Under the Nurses and Midwives Act (Chapter 209), a person must be registered/enrolled with the Singapore Nursing Board (SNB) and possess a valid Practising Certificate (PC) in order to practise nursing/midwifery in Singapore.

It is an offence to practise nursing/midwifery without a valid practising certificate.

Nurses/Midwives who have not practised nursing for a continuous period of 5 years are required to attend a Return-to-Nursing programme  before they can practise nursing again. This applies to those nurses/midwives who are holding valid practising certificates and have not practised nursing/midwifery for the past 5 years. 

For those without any conditions on their registration/ enrolment and have been practising overseas as a nurse or midwife (registered with the foreign country’s nursing/ midwifery regulatory council/ board),  please refer to FAQ on “Returning to Practice” Question (1) for more information.

It is the responsibility of the individual nurse/midwife to apply and pay for the yearly renewal of the practising certificate no later than 1 month before the expiry date on 31 December [ Nurses and Midwives Act (Chapter 209) Section 18 (4) ].

To apply for the renewal of PC, you must:

a) Complete Declaration on your fitness to continue nursing/midwifery practice; and
b) Make Payment (the SNB Fee for Application/Renewal for Practising Certificate is applicable)

For applications made after 30 November, the SNB Fee for Late Application/Renewal of Practising Certificate shall apply.
 


Online Renewal

 1. Login to make online application for yearly renewal of PC(s). Please refer here for login instructions and instruction to reset your password .

Note:This Login is available to nurses/midwives on General or Conditional Registration/Enrolment.

2. Please note that your online renewal transaction will only be considered SUCCESSFUL when you have completed the:

   b. Payment Section and payment is received by SNB

3. Updating these particulars online:
 
   

i. contact number (mobile, home);

ii. email address;

iii. employment address (applicable only to nurses/midwives on General Registration/Enrolment)

4. Mode of Payment
 

 Under Payment Section, the following modes of payment are accepted:

  a. eNETS Credit/Debit Card
 
   

i. Acceptable Credit Cards (VISA and MasterCard ONLY)

Note:  American Express (Amex), Diners Club and JCB Credit Cards are NOT accepted.
 

ii. Acceptable Debit Cards (Visa Electron Debit Cards and MasterCard ONLY)

  b. eNETS Internet Banking
 
    i. Participating Banks (DBS, POSB, UOB, OCBC, Citibank ONLY)
  c. Employer Pay on Behalf (EPOB)

Note:  Please ensure that your current employment record with SNB is up-to-date.
     

i. This payment option is only available to nurses/midwives whose employers are on the EPOB scheme.

ii. Nurses/Midwives from these EPOB institutions can choose “Employer Pay on Behalf” option AFTER completing the Declaration Section.

iii. This option is only available from 01 to 30 September for Yearly Renewal of PC.

iv. There may be circumstances where your employer will not be paying for your PC. To confirm your eligibility, please contact your employer.

  d. GIRO
 
    i. This payment mode is only available to nurses/midwives who have existing GIRO scheme. Please note that nurses/midwives must submit their declaration online before deduction will be made to your GIRO on 10 October. 
   

Note:
It is your responsibility to ensure that you have sufficient money in your bank account to effect the deduction.   There will be a bank charge ( currently at S$4/- ) for any unsuccessful GIRO deduction.
   

ii. You can Login to check on your GIRO deduction status after GIRO deduction has been made (Please refer to actual date posted on our website yearly).  If your GIRO deduction is unsuccessful, you can still pay using the following payment modes:

- eNETS Credit/Debit Card; or
- eNETS Internet Banking

iii. How to terminate GIRO Payment

- Download and complete GIRO Termination Form.
- You may submit the GIRO Termination Form via email at SNB@spb.gov.sg.
- To effect GIRO termination prior the renewal of your Practising Certificate, your signed and completed GIRO Termination form must reach SNB before before the cut-off date (usually before the last week of September  - please refer to actual date posted on our website yearly).

For SUCCESSFUL Renewal of Practising Certificate

SNB will announce on our website on the issuance of PCs to Nurses/ Midwives. Please refer to our Announcement Page for updates.

Note:
You are not allowed to renew your Practising Certificate if you did NOT practise nursing/ midwifery for a continuous period of 5 years. If you wish to recommence your nursing practice in the future, you are required to attend a Return-to-Nursing programme before you can be considered for the renewal of Practising Certificate and practise nursing subsequently.

Nurses/Midwives are required to inform SNB of any changes in particulars within 28 days of the change.
