Medications used in clinical research are handled differently from commercial preparations. Preparation and dispensing of research medications must be carried out according to research protocols, ensuring that patients receive the correct medications
in the correct doses. The research pharmacist is responsible for coordinating and managing all pharmaceutical aspects of clinical drug trials in an institution to ensure safe, effective, ethical and quality use of investigational drugs. Research Pharmacists
prepare, dispense or administer, and maintain records for all drug products involved in clinical drug trials. Some research pharmacists in the hospitals are involved in areas of research such as pharmacogenomics and pharmacodynamics to improve the effectiveness
of drugs in the body.
