NOTICE OF SINGAPORE DENTAL COUNCIL ELECTION 2021 

        An election will be held from Tuesday, 23 March 2021 (0800 hours) to Monday, 29 March 2021 (2359 hours) to fill five (5) vacancies in the Singapore Dental Council arising from the expiry of the term of office on 30 April 2021 for five (5) elected members. 

Candidates standing for SDC Election 2021

2       We have received 13 valid nominations for the SDC Election 2021. We are pleased to announce that the following 13 candidates are standing for the SDC Election 2021 (in alphabetical order):

3      The five (5) candidates with the highest number of votes will be elected and shall hold office for a period of three (3) years from 1 May 2021 to 30 April 2024.

Voting is Compulsory

4     Voting is compulsory[1]. Only Fully registered dentists are eligible to vote. You shall not authorise another person to vote on your behalf. 

5     Dentists with Conditional or Temporary registration in the Register of Dentists are not eligible to vote.

6     Failure to vote could result in you being denied the privilege of renewing your practising licence unless you pay a fine of $500 to the Singapore Dental Council. 


Online Voting on Professional Registration System


7     You MUST have your SingPass and 2FA set up before the commencement of the election. Voting will be conducted online via the Professional Registration System (PRS) via the SDC website (https://www.sdc.gov.sg). 

8     The online voting system will open from Tuesday, 23 March 2021 (0800 hours) to Monday, 29 March 2021 (2359 hours). No votes can be cast after Tuesday, 30 March 2021 (0000 hours). 

9     The Curriculum Vitae (CV) of all 13 candidates can be viewed on the online voting system. 

10     Once you have submitted your vote successfully, you will be provided with a voting reference (e.g. SDC2021-xxxx). Please retain this voting reference for your record as proof that you have voted.

11     Please refer to the Voting Instructions here for details on the online voting in the PRS.
 

Eligible Voters who are Overseas

12     Please note the following:

         (a) Long-term work/studies

         Dentists who are or will be overseas for long-term work/ studies during the election period are required to update their activity status in the PRS to “working/residing overseas”.  

         If you have updated your activity status to “working/ residing overseas” after 1 Feb 2021, your name has already been recorded in the confirmed list of eligible voters and you will be required to vote.
 
         (b) Short-term period 

         You are required to vote even if you are overseas for a short-term during the election period. Voting can be done by logging into the PRS portal via a mobile device with an internet connection.

[1] Dental Registration Act (Chapter 76) 

Compulsory voting

5. (1) Every fully registered dentist whose name appears in the first division of the Register of Dentists and who —
(a) is resident in Singapore; and
(b) has in force a practising certificate on the day of election of candidates as members of the Council referred to in section 3(2)(f), shall vote for the election of such members at such time and in such manner as may be prescribed.

(2)   Where a fully registered dentist whose name appears in the first division of the Register of Dentists is required to vote for the election of the members of the Council under subsection (1) and fails to do so, he shall not be entitled to apply for a practising certificate unless he —
(a) satisfies the Registrar that he had a good and sufficient reason for not voting at the election; or
(b) pays to the Council a penalty as prescribed by the Council.
