Duration of Residency Training in Singapore

The duration of residency training accredited by ACGME-I and that required for exit certification by the Specialists Accreditation Board is listed in the following table. Where the duration for accreditation exceeds that of ACGME-I, the remaining time will be accredited by the Joint Committee on Specialist Training (JCST).

Singapore Country Addendum to the ACGME-I Advanced Specialty Requirements

The Singapore Country Addendum to the ACGME-I Advanced Specialty Requirements prescribes specialty-specific programme requirements applicable to residency programmes in Singapore as discussed with the ACGME-I and the Singapore Residency Advisory Committees (RAC).

Read together with the ACGME-I Advanced Specialty Requirements, they represent the requirements of graduate medical education in the specialties listed.

I.B	The education in psychiatry must be48months in length.		The duration of training for exit certification as a psychiatrist must be60months in length. This includes a compulsory elective year before final completion of training.
II.B.3a	A first year in psychiatry residency should include: A minimum of four months in a primary care clinical setting in specialties such as Internal Medicine, family medicine, and/or paediatrics.	A first year in psychiatry residency should include a minimum of three months in Internal Medicine	Singapore RAC specification for curriculum content.

The Evaluations for Psychiatry Training will include: Formal Examinations, including: -M.MedPsychiatry (NUS) Parts1&2, or -MRCPsych (Parts1,2&3, and CASC), - ABPN, when the programme is fully accredited by ACGME, and Documented clinical competencies in all clinical areas and core competencies, and Documented completion of60months of accredited residency program, and Assessment from supervisors and teachers, including a formal structured 'exit' interview.
