Date issued: 4 June 2020

Guidance on Phased Approach for Resuming Optical Services after 2 June 2020

The Multi-Ministry Taskforce announced on 19 May 2020 that Singapore will exit the Circuit Breaker when it ends on 1 June 2020 and there will be gradual resumption of businesses.

2            Currently, Optical Services are considered as essential services and are allowed to continue to operate. However, practitioners should only provide essential and urgent spectacle and contact lens services and accept clients on appointment-only basis.

Guidance for Practitioners and Optical Practices

3            In line with directions from Government on the three-phase approach to resume activities safely, the Optometrists and Opticians Board would like to provide guidance on the phased approach for resuming optical services. Please refer to Annex 1

4            In addition, practitioners should observe and put in place Safe Management Measures throughout all phases of resumption of business, including measures on contact tracing, safe distancing and cleanliness. Please see full advisory on Safe Management Measures for Retail Establishments issued by Enterprise Singapore [https://www.enterprisesg.gov.sg/media-centre/media-releases/2020/may-2020/safe-management-measures-for-retail-establishments (updated 20 May 2020)].

5            Please note that the approach and range of optical services listed in Annex 1 may change as the pandemic situation evolves.  Practitioners shall continue to abide by the Professional Practice Guidelines (PPG) to maintain good standard of care for patients and customers.

6            For the latest official updates on the COVID-19 situation in Singapore, please visit the Ministry of Health’s website at www.moh.gov.sg or gov.sg. You may also wish to consult your professional societies for more specific advice pertaining to your practice during this period.

Stay well.
