Dental Public Health (DPH) has been included in the list of recognised dental specialties. It is the first non-clinical specialty to be recognised and from 1 July 2009, dentists may apply for specialist accreditation in DPH under the 'Grandfathering'/Direct Entry phase.

Under the initial 'Grandfathering'/Direct Entry phase, dentists who already have the appropriate qualifications and the requisite number of years of experience in DPH may apply to be 'grandfathered' and granted direct entry into the Dental Specialists Register. Applications for specialist accreditation under the 'Grandfathering'/Direct Entry phase for DPH open on 1 July 2009 and end on 30 June 2012.
