Qualifying Examination

Registrants who were granted Restricted registration and wish to move towards Full registration will be required to take and pass the relevant Qualifying Examination (QE).  Upon passing the QE, registrants will be required to undergo 1 year of full time supervised practice under Conditional registration in an establishment/with an employer whose supervision systems and structures comply with the Allied Health Professions Council (AHPC)'s prevailing supervised practice guidelines.  Upon completing the supervised practice period satisfactorily, registrants will be eligible for Full registration. 

Purpose and Standards of the Qualifying Examinations

The QE is an assessment of the equivalency of the professional knowledge and skills expected of practitioners in the regulated professions in Singapore.

Eligibility Criteria for the Qualifying Examinations

To be eligible for the QE, the applicant must meet the following criteria:

  1. Possess a degree qualification in the relevant discipline;
  2. Have an employment offer to practise in Singapore with an organisation or institution that is able to meet the requirements stipulated in the Supervised Practice Guidelines for the relevant allied health profession group. 
  3. Take and pass the national examination (if any) in the Country where applicant has obtained the degree qualification from.

Candidates will only be allowed a maximum of two attempts to pass the QE.

The QE is administered by AHPC's approved higher educational institutions in Singapore on behalf of the AHPC.

*For Physiotherapy QE, there is a cap of 21 candidates per sitting. In the event that the upcoming QE is oversubscribed, SIT will schedule you for the next QE (i.e. you need not reapply, an email will be sent to inform you regarding the rescheduling). Priority will be given to candidates whose In-Principle-Approval’s validity is expiring.

Application for the Qualifying Examination


1. They can apply directly to the relevant examination provider in Singapore for the QE which they intend to sit for.
2. A certified true copy of the Restricted registration certificate must be submitted to the examination provider by the closing date for the relevant QE.

Upon receipt of the QE results, registrants must submit a copy of their results to the AHPC so that the AHPC can continue processing their applications for registration. 


Examination Fees

Diagnostic Radiography, Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy

  1. The QE fee per candidate is SGD1,700 (including GST) per sitting.
  2. Payment can be done by debit/credit card through Singapore Institute of Technology's online payment portal.  For any technical problems encountered in using the Singapore Institute of Technology online payment portal, please email to IThelpdesk@SingaporeTech.edu.sg for assistance.  

*Please note that the application will not be processed until all fees are paid in full.  There shall be no refund in the event of non-attendance.

*No refunds of the examination fee will be issued for withdrawals. 

Examination Frequency

Diagnostic Radiography, Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy

The QE is currently conducted three times a year in January, May and August.  For more information, please refer to the Singapore Institute of Technology’s website

Speech-Language Therapy

The QE is conducted once a year between March and April. The written and oral examinations are conducted over 3 half days in total.

Examination Instructions to Candidates

Candidates sitting for the examination must be present at the stated venue at the stipulated time. Candidates will not be admitted into the examination venue 30 minutes after the commencement of the examination.  Candidates must bring along their NRIC or passport and copy of the reply from the examination provider as proof of identity.

Examination Results

Diagnostic Radiography, Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy
Results will be released 4 to 6 weeks after the QE.  The examination provider will issue the results to the candidate and the AHPC.  

Speech-Language Therapy
Results for the QE will be released approximately 2 weeks after both the written and oral examinations are completed. The examination provider will issue the results to the candidates and the AHPC.

First-attempt candidates who fail the QE will be allowed to sit for a second (final) attempt.

The examination results are final and appeals will not be entertained.

Please note that successful completion of the QE does not guarantee a positive outcome of the registration application with the AHPC.  For example, any false declaration/documentation submitted by the applicant to the AHPC or the examination provider may render the QE results void and invalid.
