Announcement

1.            The Singapore Medical Council (SMC) Election 2017 will be held from Tuesday, 25 April 2017 (8.00am) to Tuesday, 9 May 2017 (11.59pm) to fill seven (7) positions in the SMC arising from the expiry of the term of office for the following elected members on 8 June 2017:

                a) Dr Chen Suet Ching Jeanette;
                b) Dr Chua Swee Boon Raymond;
                c) Dr Fock Kwong Ming;
                d) Dr Low Cheng Ooi;
                e) Dr Ng Wei Keong Alan;
                f)  Dr Tan Chi Chiu; and
                g) Dr Thamotharampillai Thirumoorthy.

2.            We are pleased to announce that the following eleven (11) candidates are standing for election:

                a) Dr Chen Suet Ching Jeanette;
                b) Dr Chua Swee Boon Raymond;
                c) Dr Ganesh Ramalingam;
                d) Dr Hee Hwan Ing;
                e) Dr Lee Cheng;
                f)  Dr Lee Ser Yee;
                g) Dr Lim Khong Jin Michael;
                h) Dr Lye Tong Fong;
                i)  Dr Ng Wei Keong Alan;
                j)  Dr Pengiran Hishamuddin Bin Pengiran Badaruddin; and
                k) Dr Tay Miah Hiang.

3.           The seven (7) candidates with the highest number of votes will be elected and shall hold office for a period of three (3) years.

Voting is compulsory

4.            Voting is compulsory for all fully registered medical practitioners resident in Singapore who have in force a practising certificate during the election period. A doctor who is required to vote and who fails to do so shall not be entitled to apply for a practising certificate unless he satisfies the Registrar that he had a good and sufficient reason for not voting at the election; or he pays to the SMC a penalty of $500.

How to access the Election Portal for voting?

5.            Voting will be done online via the Professional Registration System (PRS). Doctors MUST have their SingPass Username and password ready and must ensure that their SingPass 2-Step Verification (2FA) has been set up before the commencement of the election.

6.            To access the Election portal, doctors are to login to the PRS (best viewed using Internet Explorer 8.0 or above) via the SMC website (www.smc.gov.sg) using their SingPass username and password, as well as the One-Time Password generated via the 2FA.

7.            Once logged in successfully, doctors should select the “ELECTION” menu which can be found on the left side of the page. Then select the “Election Page” menu to view the candidates’ curriculum vitae.

When will online voting begin?

8.            Please note that the online voting system will be open from Tuesday, 25 April 2017 (8.00am) to Tuesday, 9 May 2017 (11.59pm). No votes can be cast after Tuesday, 9 May 2017 (11.59pm).

9.            Doctors have to log in to the PRS personally to cast their votes online. Doctors cannot authorise another person to vote on their behalf.

Important notice: PRS downtime due to scheduled maintenance

10.        The PRS will not be accessible due to system maintenance on the following dates and times:

*This 10-hour downtime in PRS stretches over two days

Voting Confirmation

13.        Doctors who have voted successfully will be provided with a voting reference (e.g. SMC2017-xxxx). Doctors can contact the Assistant Returning Officers for assistance if they are unable to view their voting reference after submitting their vote.
