With effect from 1 April 2011, the temporary registration and practising certificate expiry dates for service provider doctors without registrable medical qualifications will be synchronised to 2 periods in a calendar year.

Applications for temporary registration for service provision received from 1 April 2011 will be considered for approval for a period not exceeding 2 years initially, subject to the period of the doctor's employment contract, so that they will closely coincide with the MOPEX changeover dates, i.e. 1 May and 1 Nov each year. The practising certificate issued will be tied to the duration of the doctor's temporary registration. Extensions for temporary registration and practising certificate thereafter are for periods not exceeding 12 months each time.

New doctors affected by the changes will have to pay a practising certificate fee ranging from S$300 to S$400 when they come for registration at the SMC office. The practising certificate renewal fee remains at S$100 and S$200 for periods of less than 6 months and up to 12 months, respectively until such time the fees are revised. No refunds will be given for any unused portion of the practising certificate.

Synchronisation for temporary registration and practising certificate for existing doctors in the system will take effect when the doctor applies for an extension of his/ her temporary registration.
