Prof Ong Yong Yau, who has been President of the Singapore Medical Council (SMC) for the past two years since September 2008, has stepped down from his position at the helm, but continues to be a member of the Council. Council member Prof Tan Ser Kiat was elected on 18 Oct 2010 by Council members as the incoming President of the SMC, in accordance with Section 7 of the Medical Registration Act. Prof Tan's term of office with SMC will be until 19 Aug 2013.

As President, Prof Ong Yong Yau dedicated much time and energy into guiding the Singapore Medical Council and achieving many changes including the Amendments to the Medical Registration Act 2010, which were passed during his tenure. SMC would like to thank Prof Ong for his able leadership and contributions. 

We warmly welcome Prof Tan Ser Kiat as President of Singapore Medical Council and look forward to his leadership.
