To be eligible for registration, the applicant must:

  1. Possess a basic/primary professional qualification in his profession (e.g. BSc (Physiotherapy) for a Physiotherapist);
  2. Be bona fide;
  3. Have an offer of employment as an allied health professional in Singapore;
  4. Be of good standing/reputation/character; and
  5. Have passed the national examination (if any) in the Country where applicant has graduated from.


The Council will also consider other factors, where applicable, such as:

  1. Post-graduate qualifications
  2. Work experience and history (e.g. whether the applicant has been in active clinical practice, professional practice experience)
  3. Registration with other licensing authorities
  4. Evidence of proficiency in English Language
  5. Physical and Mental Health status
  6. Evidence of passing the Qualifying Examination (QE)

     
Note:
Only work done as an Occupational Therapist, a Physiotherapist or Speech-Language Therapist will be considered professional practice experience.
English Language Proficiency Requirement

As of 5 June 2014, applicants whose basic professional qualification was not obtained from Singapore, Australia, Canada (except Quebec), New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, South Africa, United Kingdom, and the United States of America will be required to demonstrate English Language Proficiency.

Acceptable English Language Proficiency Tests

Table 1 presents the minimum acceptable scores from various international English language testing systems.

(i) For registration applicants who have equal or less than 2 years of professional practice experience in Singapore before 15 April 2013 and are required to prove English Language Proficiency, the Council will accept their test results regardless of the date the test is taken.

(ii) For registration applicants with no professional practice experience in Singapore and for those who started work on or after 15 April 2013, only results taken within 2 years from the date of registration application will be accepted.

1 Affected registration applicants (i.e. Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists) who have not taken the test and need to take the test can proceed with the registration application first.  All successful applicants affected must fulfil the ELP requirements as part of their Conditional or Temporary registration period.

2 All affected applicants (i.e. Speech-Language Therapists) must meet this requirement and show proof of English Language Proficiency at the point of registration application.

As of 1 January 2015, the AHPC will only be accepting the IELTS (Academic Module) as part of their English Language Proficiency requirements for registration. For more information, please click here for the full circular.
